Angelina Jolie has hit a bump in the road regarding her new flick in Bosnia.
The Oscar winner has questioned the Bosnian government’s decision to withdraw her film permit, claiming the movie was based on false rumours about the premise of the movie.
The yet-to-be-titled film is set in Bosnia on the eve of the 1992 Bosnian war which resulted in 100,000 people loosing their lives. The story centers on the love affair between a Bosnian woman and a Serbian man. Jolie, has asked critics to ‘hold judgment’ on her directorial effort for the Bosnian-based film until the film is released. Angelina argues that the film based in Eastern Europe has multiple storylines, which may quell some of the concerns critics have been raising of the film.
“There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters and that will be revealed once the film is released. My hope is that
people will hold judgment until they have seen the film.”Bakira Hasecic, President of the Bosnian Women Victims of War Association, has criticized the subject matter claiming that the plot of the film focuses on the lead female character is essentially
“falling in love with her torturer.”The cancelled permit was apparently a technical mistake, which the film company are reapplying for, but Jolie is anxious that critics understand she is aware of the sensitive nature of her film, saying
“obviously, any dramatic interpretation will always fail those who have had a real experience.”
